Battle Report: Astra Militarum vs. Blood Angels [750 pts]

=======================

Colonel Wishart took a long pull on the mug of Emperor’s Finest cafestim, hoping the warmth would take away some of the chill in the air, and the edge off of the voices he could hear nibbling at the back of his head.  His head cocked sideways, regarding the cup holding the ‘liquid’ in his mouth for a moment.

This was hardly Pvt. Baldwin’s finest cup.  Far from it, in fact.  It’s hard to be picky though when your only heating element is your Chimera’s engine block, and you left your supply lines about 150km behind you on the road to Hive Cluster Delphi. 2017 Hobby In Review

Around this time of year, everyone starts counting down their TOP X’s of 2017.  Frankly, I don’t have enough to fill out a TOP X.

Personally, 2017 has been amazing in terms of growth and what I’ve been able to achieve.  In terms of hobby, it’s been pretty meh, despite the golden age that is 8th edition.

On this basis, knowing full well I could have done a bit better with my hobby, I’d like to rattle off the stuff I’ve worked on over this year.  Basically I’m shaking down my camera roll, and if it comes out as a stream of consciousness, that’s because IT TOTALLY IS. Completed: Raphen’s Death Company & DC Chaplain

It’s been over a month since I’ve posted last, but I figured I’d wrap up something that’s been lingering too long on my Trello board.  Time to showcase some of the work I wrapped up over the winter, Raphen’s Death Company, and a more recent addition, the DC Chaplain, who has yet to be dubbed.  He died a rather inauspicious death at the hands of some Black Legion inspired cultists during the Apocalypse battle earlier this year…

On the Eve of the Apocalypse

Typically, gigantic apocalypse games allow me a significant amount of motivation to paint my miniatures.  Chaosbro and I have been playing through a kill-team campaign in preparation for a fairly large Apocalypse battle, so you’d think that I’d be painting my ass off in order to get things ready to go on camera.

Pictured: My procrastination Mechanism.

Welp.  The game is tomorrow.  That ain’t happening.  At least not to the extent that I was initially hoping.  Here’s my (likely final) Apocalypse list:

Yo Dawg, I Heard U Liek Blood (~5,000 pts)

  • The Emprah’s Mighty Flow’ry Meadow (1 HP remaining)
  • Sir Winston of House Hawkshroud (RIP)
  • Cadian Combined Arms:
    • Knight Commander Pask – Punisher, Multi-meltas, MBT Bro
    • CCS w/ Creed (RIP), 4x Plasmas
    • 2x Meltavets in Chimeras
    • Armoured Sentinel, multi-laser
    • Armoured Sentinel, multi-laser (lolll)
    • Armoured Sentinel, multi-laser (lolllll)
    • Leman Russ Exterminator
    • Aegis Defense Line
  • Emprah’s Spear (Vendetta)
  • Emprah’s Wrath (Manticore, Basilisk, Wyvern)
  • Dominus Maniple:
    • Dominus w/ Uncreator Gauntlet
    • 5x Vanguard w/ Arc Rifle, Arc Pistol, Taser Goad
    • Guncrab w/ Neutron Laser
  • Strike Force Deathstorm:
    • Captain Karl!
    • Raphen’s Death Inc.
    • Cassor Le Damned
    • Terminator Squad Alpheus
  • Allied Detachment (Blood Angels):
    • Death Company Chaplain
    • 5-man Tactical Squad w/ Grav, combi-grav, power fist & Razorback
    • Deredeo Pattern Dreadnought

The sum total of the above is about 4,470 points, and requires me to paint another, 4 tactical marines and 2 Death Company models and lay some details down on the Deredeo Dreadnought.  Cool.  That might be achievable for tomorrow.

That leaves me about 650 points to shoe-horn fun things into that there list.  My thoughts:

  • Sicarian Infiltrators – these things look too cool NOT to use!  Though fragile.  I’ll have to keep them hidden or outflanking. Unfortunately with no  additional vanguard painted I’ll be forced to go ‘unbound’ to bring them.
  • Sydonian Dragoon – again, too cool to pass up.  He’ll fit in nicely with the Cadian Stompies and Cassor Le Damned. Welp, since we’re unbound may as well go full hog.
  • The Corvus Vulture….?  It’s primed, not painted.  If I get those 6 Blood Angel dudes banged out then maybe I’ll start going on this.  yeesh.  Welp, if this doesn’t work out then I can always go…
  • Hellhound?  I always forget these are useful things, and may be good at cleaning up backfield units…?
  • Scions…?  They’re a bit delicate but yeah, I could shoe-horn them in for back-field cleaning duties.
  • Rust-stalkers…?  Nurrrrr.  That’s a pipe dream.
  • Sanguinary Guard?  More likely than the stalkers (2 colours, some details…)

Anyways.  All this to say my final list is subject to change based on how much I get done this evening.

I’m *STOKED* to be throwing some dice tomorrow.  Hopefully I’ll keep detailed notes so I can write up a long over-due batrep.

Imperial Armies: Hobby Status Report

You guys would probably know at this point I re-picked up this hobby in January 2013, meaning I’m coming up on about 3 years in the Imperial Guard.  It took me until October of 2013 to gather 1,000 points, and about a year after that my force had expanded to about 3,500.  Sitting here in November 2015, I can now advise my total Imperial force is approaching 7,000 points.

It’s incredible to think about.

Things I’m Getting Really Stoked Over

Alright, summer’s winding down, and the days are getting a bit cooler (at least around the GTA anyways — and who knows how long that will last) but y’know what?  I’m pretty stoked.  I’m sitting here, in my chair, and I’m stoked out of my bloody mind.

Some might say dangerously stoked.

Anyways.  Here’s a non-exhaustive list of items that are gettin’ me stoked as hell:

The Toronto Blue Jays – The boys of summer have been absolutely killing it since their trade for Troy Tulowitzki and David Price.  They have absolutely run over the Yankees en route to their now 1.5 game lead in the AL East, and Fangraphs is giving them a 12.2% chance of taking it all, behind the LA Dodgers and Houston Astros.

For those that don’t know what I’m talking about, this is baseball, and it’s baseball at its finest.

We haven’t been to the playoffs in 20+ years, so it’s high time.  Bring it on!

Star Wars Armada Wave 2 – FFG is going to take away a lot of my money once is comes out.  I was dealt a hammer-blow earlier this week when they announced that the second wave, which includes the Imperial Class Star Destroyer and Home One, an MC80 Mon Calamari Star Cruiser (of “IT’S A TRAP” fame).  I anticipate Wave 2 brings the game from ‘absolutely incredible’ to ‘shit just got real’ territory.  If you thought that Victory Class Star Destroyers looked big on the table-top, you should take a look at these puppies per the photos people have graciously posted from Gencon, where there was a preview display up.

My excitement goes a step further, because FFG has sent out the following to everyone:

sullust-alt-art-card
This was posted directly to FFG’s website as part of their Massing at Sullust campaign. HUBBA HUBBA

DAMN.  4 red and 4 blue on the frontal arc?  Goodnight, anyone at mid-range that’s stupid enough to get on the frontal arc of this thing.  It’s also faster than the Victory, can control more squadrons, and more maneuverable at speed 2 and 3.  I doubt anyone will have any reasons NOT to take this thing (except its relatively high price tag at 120 points).  It’s shield layout and number of hullpoints indicate it can probably take a beating too, just as well because the base is probably massive as well.  Throwing 2 blue dice at enemy squadrons doesn’t hurt either.

Anyways.  I’m really looking forwards to the big boys arriving.

My Blood Angels – Seriously.  They’re really coming along well.  I kind of hesitated to get back into marines because I thought that my paint skills probably wouldn’t do them justice.  Welp.  I’ve gone and proven myself wrong, as I’ve done up some ENTIRELY PASSABLE quality models.

But hey! I did finish something! Those terminators I started working on ages ago? THEY'RE DONE! (less the decals. I have micro-set and micro-sol arriving via amazon sometime in September, apparently.)

This Razorback has been a work in progress for a while. As you can see I really need to attack the black sections with a little more gusto. I'm trying to break up the vast sea of red without making too obvious that's what I'm trying to do.

That last one’s a WIP still, but where the hell did that come from?  AHHH!!! SO STOKED!!!!!!!!

My Chaos-bro has a BlogSeriously, you should go check it out.  It’s for more regular stuff than our monthly campaign battle.  Right now he’s converting up an army of Chaosy Renegades (of Funk) who are looking to mess up my Cadians day.  Worth perusing, that’s for sure.

I might be the Dachshund in this friendship... heh.

I can’t be the only one who’s stoked about stuffs.  HIT ME UP.  What’re you stoked about?!?!?!
