FIGHTAN ORKZ

Looks like there are mixed emotions with respect to the new Mob Rule in the 7th edition Orkz release.  Failing morale tests are now a bit more costly, and the Orkz will definitely need to stock up on boyz to prevent reaching 25% casualties, or maybe even go so far as picking out units with pinning that might cause them issues.

I’m probably going to be putting these rules to the test tomorrow, as I play my Guardsmen against a well established ork veteran.  I’m dangerously stoked, with about 1,500 in orkz sitting on the shelf left over from 3rd edition.

I might be picking up the new codex as well, so stay tuned.  The greenskins might be making a bit of a comeback and be featured more strongly in the near future!!!!

Battle Report: Astra Militarum vs. Dark Eldar w/ Eldar (1,500 pts)

Always a good time at the local shop, and managed to get a ~1,500 point game in against the Dark Eldar (w/ Eldar Allies).  This was the Dark Eldar’s first encounter with the Imperial Guard, and point in fact, my first experience against Dark Eldar!

Neat Tactics I Wouldn’t Mind Trying (Pt. 1)

With the relatively recent release of the Astra Militarum codex, several new tactical options are available through the addition of a few new units.

I tend to run mechanized lists, but have been loving the durability and utility of a blob squad behind an aegis line (particularly when they’re holding an important objective).  I’ve been playing around with the idea of taking the Aegis on the road, because I *loath* playing statically…

Battle Report: Astra Militarum vs. Dark Angels (1,000 pts)

My best man showed up on my doorstep to play his first game of 7th Edition, so we tailored smaller lists to showcase the new Psychic phase ( *jazz hands* ) and Maelstrom missions.

Battle Report: Astra Militarum vs. Tau (1,500 pts)

A particularly long evening at the shop last night, as the Guard and Tau fought tooth and nail in “The Relic” at 1,500 points.  AWH brought the Tau list in preparation for Astronomi-con Toronto.

Battle Report: Astra Militarum vs. Grey Knights (500 pts)

Just a quick and dirty 500 point battle between the Guard and Grey Knights — I had commitments in the afternoon and couldn’t commit to a larger game.

We rolled up Tactical Escalation (Maelstrom of War #3), and seeing as how our board was 4’x4′ we just decided to have at it ‘regularly’.  Generally 2 objectives in the mid-field, and 2 in either deployment zone.

The Flow’ry Meadow: Construction and a Brief History

My first hobby post on the biggest model I’ve ever built:

A good friend of mine gave me a Baneblade for Christmas, with the provision that I’d have it ready for an apocalypse battle scheduled for February.  With that in mind, I set about furiously constructing this behemoth over the Christmas Holidays.

My wife didn’t see me much over the following two weeks.  As a peace offering, I gave her the rights to christen the tank however she felt appropriate.  After much deliberation, she proposed the name that stuck.

Big day out at the shop, and got in a big match against the Waaaaagh, trying out the new Maelstrom missions as presented in 7th Edition.  Shopkeep was gracious enough to lend me his deck of Tactical Objectives cards.
